Over the centuries, it has undergone modifications, including the demolition of part of the castle walls. In the 1600s, the space adjacent to the door was used for “sfumio,” a sanitization treatment involving immersion in smoke, believed to be a deterrent against the plague.
Altidona si trova in provincia di Fermo, tra il borgo storico collinare e la zona costiera di Marina di Altidona. È raggiungibile in auto dall’autostrada A14 uscendo a Pedaso e proseguendo poi sulla SS16 Adriatica in direzione Marina di Altidona; da qui si sale verso il centro storico seguendo le indicazioni per Altidona lungo la strada provinciale.
La stazione ferroviaria più vicina è quella di Pedaso, servita dai collegamenti regionali sulla linea Adriatica. Dalla stazione è possibile raggiungere Marina di Altidona e il borgo di Altidona in pochi minuti con taxi, autobus locale o auto.
Per visitare il centro storico di Altidona si consiglia di lasciare l’auto nelle aree di sosta situate all’ingresso del borgo o nelle immediate vicinanze del centro, proseguendo poi a piedi tra le vie del paese. Per chi invece vuole raggiungere la zona mare, sono presenti aree di parcheggio a Marina di Altidona, in particolare nei pressi della SS16, di Via A. Gramsci e degli accessi alla spiaggia. Durante l’estate o in occasione di eventi è consigliabile verificare la segnaletica locale e le eventuali limitazioni temporanee alla sosta.

Since 2012, it also hosts a private collection of maritime objects, making it a place that combines architectural elegance with historical interest.
The Old Country, corresponding to the current corso Castel San Giorgio, represents the original nucleus of the ancient village and the city port, where the Adriatic Sea once reached. Characterized by three pointed arches that marked the landing area for boats, the site today offers a charming walk along the castle walls that leads to the Merlata Tower or Turrimagna.
The Palazzo dei Priori stands out with its characteristic fan-shaped façade and the scenic double staircase, guarded by the bronze statue of Pope Sixtus V. Today, it has become the heart of the city's museum complex, showcasing prestigious rooms such as the Portrait Hall and the Eagle Hall, while the most famous treasure remains the World Map Room.
