Climbing behind the historic center of Porto San Giorgio, you reach one of the most secluded and picturesque spots in the city: Monte della Misericordia. This hill, once home to agricultural terraces and a guardian of ancient rituals, is today a space of tranquility and contemplation, surrounded by greenery and offering breathtaking views of the Adriatic on one side and the hills of the hinterland on the other.
The name of the district recalls the historic Church of Misericordia, now gone, which once stood near the ridge and represented a spiritual and assistance reference for the local people. Even today, the toponymy keeps the memory of this religious and social stronghold alive.
Here, you walk among olive groves, dirt paths, and sudden openings onto the landscape: one of the highest points of the San Giorgio territory, able to provide a 360-degree perception of the Marche landscape. To the west, Fermo and river valleys are visible; to the east, the sea and the port with boats cutting through the horizon; on clear days, you can even glimpse Monte Conero and the distant profiles of the Sibillini mountains.

Monte della Misericordia is located in the hilly area behind the historic centre of Porto San Giorgio. It can be reached by car via the A14 motorway, taking the Porto San Giorgio–Fermo exit, or along the SS16 Adriatica road, following signs for the town centre and Via della Misericordia.
The reference railway station is Porto S. Giorgio–Fermo, located on the Adriatic railway line. From the station, the town centre can be reached on foot; to reach the Monte della Misericordia area, it is advisable to continue by local transport, taxi or on foot if you are used to uphill routes.
Built in the early 19th century by the Sinibaldi family and later passed to the counts Maggiori and the Murri family, this historic brick residence has served over time as a municipal seat, a school, and a polyclinic. Surrounded by a large garden accessible from two entrances, the villa represents today a fundamental piece of the historical and social memory of Porto Sant'Elpidio.
