Morning:
TORRE DI PALME, THE VILLAGE OVERLOOKING THE ADRIATIC
The itinerary begins in Torre di Palme, a panoramic hilltop village overlooking the Adriatic and the ideal starting point for the Bosco del Cugnolo trail. Before beginning the walk, it is worth exploring the historic centre, with its brick alleys, sea views and panoramic spots that reveal the connection between the village, the coast and the Fermo hills.
Recommended time: about 30 minutes
BOSCO DEL CUGNOLO, A REMNANT OF MEDITERRANEAN SCRUB
From the village, the trail leads to Bosco del Cugnolo, an easy and short route of about 2 km. Covering around 9 hectares, the woodland is one of the few intact remnants of Mediterranean scrub along the Adriatic coast and is included among the Region’s Protected Floristic Areas. Walking here means crossing a rare natural setting, surrounded by cultivated fields, evergreen vegetation and open views towards the sea.
Recommended time: about 45 minutes
FROM THE PLIOCENE TO THE GROTTA DEGLI AMANTI
Bosco del Cugnolo lies on a fossil dune from the Pliocene, a landform shaped by ancient marine sediments that tells the geological story of this stretch of coast. Halfway along the route, you come across the Grotta degli Amanti, linked to the story of Antonio and Laurina, one of the best-known and most evocative tales of the area. This stop brings together nature, memory and local legend.
Recommended time: about 30 minutes
